Privacy Policy
Effective October 18, 2026
Climb Console LLC ("Climb Console", "we", "us") makes a camera system that gyms install at their training boards, and the Climb Console app that climbers use with it. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- The gym's Climb Console iPad records climbs only while a climber's phone is connected to it. If no phone is connected, nothing is recorded.
- Those recordings are sent to your phone, and we also keep them to improve how well our system tracks climbing.
- You don't create an account. The app identifies your phone with a random ID, not your name or email.
- Your chosen display name and score can appear on the gym's leaderboards.
- We don't sell your information, show ads, track you across other apps, or use recordings to recognise faces.
- You can ask us to delete your data, or to take your name off the leaderboards, at any time.
Information we collect
From the Climb Console app
- Display name. The name you choose to show on leaderboards. It doesn't need to be your real name.
- Identifiers. A random ID created on your phone and stored in its Keychain, the climber ID our server links to it, an ID for your phone used to deliver your recordings, and a push notification token if you allow notifications.
- Climbing activity. Your attempts, sends, the routes and holds involved, and the XP and ClimberScore you earn.
If you enter a ZIP code to find gyms near you, it is used on your phone only and is not sent to us. The app does not use your location, contacts or photo library.
From the gym's camera system
A gym that uses Climb Console mounts an iPad facing its training board. The iPad records only while a climber's phone is connected to it: it then records video and depth information of the climbs on that board, and the video can include anyone else in view. From the recordings it works out body position (a simplified "skeleton" of joint positions) and which holds were used, to log each attempt.
The arcade games use the camera to follow players in real time, but they don't save any video.
- Recordings of your attempts.
- Movement data derived from them: body-position skeletons, hold contacts, and whether an attempt was a send or a fall.
While your phone is connected to the gym's Climb Console iPad, your attempts are linked to your phone so they can be delivered to you. We do not use recordings or movement data to identify who you are, and we do not perform facial recognition.
From gyms and website visitors
- Demo requests. The gym name, contact name, email, phone number, address and message you send through our website.
- Gym accounts. Billing contact details and subscription status. Payments are handled by Stripe; we don't see or store card numbers.
- Website. Our website doesn't use analytics or advertising cookies. Like any website, our host receives basic request information such as your IP address.
How we use information
- To record, log and deliver your attempts and replays to your phone.
- To calculate your score and show leaderboards at the gym and in the app.
- To send notifications you've allowed, such as when a recording is ready or your leaderboard position changes.
- To improve Climb Console, including training the models that track climbing (see below).
- To respond to demo requests, support questions, and reports about leaderboard names.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to meet legal obligations.
Using recordings to improve our tracking
Recognising holds, hands, feet and body position on a climbing wall is hard, and real climbing is the only way to get better at it. We keep recordings and the movement data derived from them, and use them to train and test the models that power Climb Console. This data is used only to build and improve Climb Console. We don't sell it or share it with others for their own purposes. You can ask us to delete your recordings at any time (see "Your choices").
Who can see your information
- Other climbers and the gym. Your display name, rank and XP appear on that board's leaderboards, in the app and on the gym's screen. The gym's screen can also show attempts as they happen.
- You. Your recordings and logs are delivered to your phone.
- Service providers who run parts of Climb Console for us, under contracts that limit how they can use it: Apple (push notifications), DigitalOcean (our servers), Cloudflare (storage for recordings), Resend (email), Stripe (gym billing), Netlify (our website) and Google Fonts (website fonts).
- When required by law, or to protect the safety of people or the service.
- If our business changes hands, information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
How long we keep it
- The copy of a recording held for delivery is deleted from our delivery server after it reaches your phone or after a short period.
- Recordings and movement data kept for improving our tracking are kept until you ask us to delete them, or until we no longer need them.
- Leaderboard and score information is kept while you use Climb Console.
- Push tokens are removed when they stop working or after 90 days without use.
- Demo request and gym account information is kept for as long as we have a business relationship, and as required for our records.
Your choices
- Hide names on your phone. In the app, press and hold a name on a leaderboard to hide it or report it.
- Leave the leaderboards. Email us and we'll take your name off every public leaderboard. Your own scores stay in your app.
- Delete your data. Email us to delete your climber profile, scores, and the recordings and movement data linked to your phone. Include your display name, the gym, and roughly when you climbed so we can find it.
- Notifications. You can turn them off at any time in your phone's Settings.
- Not being recorded. The iPad only records while a phone is connected to it. If you don't want to be recorded, don't connect your phone, and don't climb on the board while someone else's phone is connected. Disconnecting stops recording after any climb in progress.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your information, or to object to how we use it. Email us to make a request and we'll respond within the time the law requires.
Children
Climb Console is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them through the app. A gym's camera may record young climbers using its board. If you are a parent or guardian and want your child's recordings or information deleted, email us and we will delete them.
Security
We protect information with encryption in transit, restricted access to our servers and databases, and limits on who can reach operational tools. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe and will notify you if the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll give notice in the app or on this website before it takes effect.
